Dr Catherine Johnson is a Neurosurgeon practicing in Newcastle and Northern NSW
Dr Johnson grew up in Brisbane where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Queensland, moving then to Sydney to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2007 at the University of Sydney. During her foundation years as a doctor she solidified her interest in neurosurgery, finding its complexity both challenging and rewarding. With the encouragement and support of wonderful mentors along her journey, Dr Johnson underwent training in several states and cities throughout Australia including Sydney, Canberra, Townsville and the Gold Coast and completed a Masters of Medicine in the field of pain at the University of Sydney. Dr Johnson became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery in 2018. In 2019 she underwent post-fellowship training locally at John Hunter Hospital in the field of spine, before completing two further international fellowships in the United Kingdom. These were in her key areas of interest in neuro-oncology, particularly awake craniotomy at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, and then in paediatric neurosurgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.
Dr Johnson holds a public appointment at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, and private appointments at Lingard Private Hospital and Newcastle Private Hospital.
Catherine is currently enjoying being a new mum, and has a keen interest in travel, cooking and fitness, and a heartfelt affection for corgis.
